Jackson’s Steakhouse - Pensacola
We celebrated Jayne’s last day as an educator with dinner at Jackson’s Steakhouse. Somehow we had never dined there in the 19+ years we’ve lived in Pensacola. I wish we hadn’t waited so long.
We made reservations and arrived just a touch early and our table was ready. Our server, Kathy was great. We started with Smoked Peach Old Fashioneds, Jayne’s with a little extra simple syrup. They were very good, but I still prefer an original Old Fashioned. Kathy brought us warm bread from the Emerald Coast Bread Company in Pensacola, and soft butter…both were excellent.
I chose the French onion soup which order at almost every steakhouse. It was very good but not the best in town like Kathy said. Jayne had a wedge salad, her favorite, which included strips of Bill-E’s Small Batch Bacon from Fairhope, Alabama. Jayne loved her salad and the bacon was unreal.
Tuesday is prime rib night so that was my choice, medium rare. The cook was excellent. The taste was shockingly average and lacked seasoning. It was definitely a $20 prime rib night example; the normal price is $80. Jayne chose the “Old Hickory” Steak which Jackson’s describes as an “open-fired 6-oz. filet medallion, fried green tomatoes, jumbo lump crab, Thibodeaux’s andouille cream and three-cheese macaroni with bacon.” It includes many of Jayne’s favorite and she loved every element.
Jayne ordered a chocolate martini for an after-dinner drink. Very light and simply delicious. Kathy then delivered a bowl of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce in recognition of Jayne’s retirement. Very sweet of her, and very good.
Overall it was a very nice dinner. The atmosphere was elegant yet relaxed and was excellent (except for the average prime rib). Kathy was great and I was very impressed by the pace of service. We neither waited nor were we rushed. We will go back…but I’ll get the filet.
